Pres. Duterte in quarantine after exposure to a COVID-19 case

President Rodrigo Duterte is undergoing mandatory quarantine following his exposure to a confirmed COVID-19 case, Malacañang confirmed in a statement on Thursday (Feb. 3).

Acting Presidential Spokesperson and Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles said the President “was recently exposed to household staff who tested positive for COVID-19.”

He said Duterte’s last day of exposure to a known case was last Sunday (Jan. 30), and his negative RT-PCR test result was last Monday (Jan. 31). He was tested again on Tuesday (Feb. 1).

“The President has since been tested for COVID-19, and while the results of the test came back negative, he is currently observing mandatory quarantine protocols,” he said.

“The Chief Executive continues to work while in quarantine, and is in constant communication with the members of the Cabinet in order to ensure that urgent matters are addressed, and to monitor the implementation of his directives, particularly with regard to the government’s COVID-19 response,” he added.

Meanwhile, the official clarified that the Chief Executive’s “visit to Cardinal Santos Medical Center in San Juan is for his routine medical check-up only.”

Duterte is fully vaccinated with Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine and has already received his booster dose, according to the Palace. -ag
