PNP urges Cebuanos to wear face masks outdoor vs. COVID-19

By Katrina Gracia Consebido

The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged Cebu residents on Monday, June13, to continue wearing face masks amid the existing threat of COVID-19 and its emerging variants.

MGen. Valeriano De Leon, PNP Deputy Commander of Joint Task Force COVID-19 Shield, made the appeal to all Cebu residents and workers after Governor Gwendolyn Garcia released an executive order lifting the mandatory use of wearing face masks outdoors.

De Leon said they are still mandated to exercise public health standards for the welfare of the people of Cebu and they do not want to confuse the public on “whether or not face masks should still be used.”

“Let us bear in mind that with the threat of COVID-19, you are not only protecting yourself but also the people around you. We should all work together to ensure the safety of everybody,” he said.

De Leon added that the only way to protect themselves is to wear their face masks as there are no visible signs if an individual is a carrier of COVID-19 variants.

“Wala naman kasi tayong makikita na sign na carrier ng variant ng COVID-19 ang isang tao. Kaya ang pinakaligtas na paraan upang ma-proteksyunan ang ating mga sarili ay ang pagsusuot ng face mask,” he said.  – ag
