Mount Bulusan covers houses, streets in ash

A thick layer of ash from Mount Bulusan in Sorsogon blanketed on Sunday afternoon, June 5, homes and streets after the volcano spewed ash in a phreatic eruption.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) raised the status of Mount Bulusan to Alert Level 1, indicating low level of unrest.

Ashfall has been reported in the towns of Juban and Irosin.

Bulusan, a stratovolcano, is considered as one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines. – ngs
