President Rodrigo Roa Duterte led on Wednesday, April 27, the inauguration of the new longest bridge in the country, the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX).

In his inaugural speech, Duterte commended the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation, Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation, and local government units (LGUs) of Cebu City and Cordova “on the completion of this new iconic landmark.”

This, he said, was “despite the challenges brought about by the so many problems like the pandemic and Typhoon Odette.”

He also mentioned that the new state-of-the-art infrastructure will increase economic productivity, trade, and mobility of the province.

“I’m hopeful this shall likewise result in an increase in economic productivity in the province and the rest of the Visayas to a safer, faster, and more convenient means of transporting goods, as well as people,” he said.

The 8.5-kilometer CCLEX will link Cebu City to Mactan Island through the municipality of Cordova which is expected to serve at least 50,000 vehicles daily. – ag
