DOST prepares for vaccine mix-and-match trials

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) is preparing for the vaccine mix-and-match trials against COVID-19.

In Tuesday’s (July 13) Laging Handa public briefing, DOST Undersecretary Rowena Guevara said 3,000 individuals are expected to participate in the trials at their proposed sites in Manila, Pasig, Antipolo, Marikina, Makati, Pasay, Quezon City, Muntinlupa, Cebu City, and Davao City.

“Para masiguro ang consistency at uniformity sa trial, ang ilalahok lamang ay ang mga hindi pa nabibigyan ng COVID-19 na bakuna,” she said, adding that the trial will use vaccines available in the Philippines.

Meanwhile, Guevara confirmed that Health Secretary Francisco Duque III and WHO Chief Scientist Soumya Swaminathan have signed an agreement on the WHO vaccine solidarity trial, which aims to help the Philippines discover the most effective COVID-19 vaccine for the Filipino population.
