The Department of Health (DOH) on Friday, Sept. 22, told residents near Taal to stay indoors and wear face masks due to the potential health risks brought about by Taal Volcano’s volcanic smog or vog.
Vog contains acidic volcanic gas, including sulfur dioxide, that may cause eye and throat irritation and difficulty breathing.
DOH also noted the “poor air quality” being experienced in areas near Taal, including Metro Manila.
The Health department urged the public to stay indoors and avoid outdoor activities to “limit their vog exposure.”
If outdoor activities cannot be avoided, DOH advised to wear face masks.
“Isara ang mga pinto at bintana upang pigilin ang pagpasok ng vog,” its advisory read.
“Uminom ng maraming tubig para maiwasan ang iritasyon at pagtuyo ng lalamunan,” it further read.
