DOH: Granular lockdowns more effective than wider COVID-19 lockdowns

Imposing granular lockdowns rather than wider community quarantine restrictions can be more effective in containing COVID-19, according to the Department of Health (DOH).

In a Laging Handa public briefing on Saturday (Aug. 28), DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said imposing granular lockdowns could be a lot more effective for the local government units to conduct active case finding among the communities.

“We saw itong wider community quarantine restrictions, mukhang hindi na masyadong effective para sa atin kaya we would like to shift into this granular lockdowns where our local governments will be doing active case finding,” Vergeire said.

“Ito po ang nakikita natin that can stop transmission pero katulad nga ng sabi ko, ito po ay kailangan pa ring pag-aralan further ng ating mga eksperto at ito po ay didesisyunan ng IATF,” she added.

On Saturday, the DOH recorded a total of 19,441 fresh cases of COVID-19 in the country, the highest number of daily COVID-19 cases recorded so far. – Report from Karen Villanda / CF – rir
