Abalos: It’s possible for NCR to achieve population protection by end-September

By Christine Fabro

Some 3.6 million of Metro Manila’s population of about 14 million have been vaccinated as of Tuesday (June 22) – 2.8 million received the first dose while 877,958 received the second dose – reflecting an average of 114,000 jabs a day in the metro.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos said in a press release that these figures show that the National Capital Region (NCR) can achieve population protection against the COVID-19 virus early as the vaccination program progresses.

“The numbers are encouraging; the pace of the vaccination is increasing.  The national government, through the National Vaccination Operations Center, ensures the steady supply of COVID-19 vaccines in Metro Manila,” Abalos said.

He added that if the jab numbers are sustained and further increase, the majority of Metro Manila’s population will be protected against COVID-19 by the end of September. – jlo
