103-year old Filipina gets her first shot of COVID-19 vaccine

A centenarian in Davao City received her first dose of AstraZeneca vaccine on Wednesday (May 19), making her one of the oldest recipients of the COVID-19 vaccine administered by the city government.

In an interview with Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM), Genoveva “Lola Bebang” Yuson-Lanutan, 103 years old, said she wants to serve as an example to the Filipino people that having a vaccine is safer than not having any protection at all against the deadly virus.

Lola Bebang was vaccinated by Dr. Margie Rubio at the Apolinario Mabini National High School in Davao City.

Earlier in April, Tomasa Amurao, 101, who lives in Las Piñas City, got inoculated with AstraZeneca’s COVID-19 vaccine so that she could resume her daily walking routine.

In an interview with the Philippine News Agency, her grandson said, “She wants to live [to] more than 110 years old, which we all desire, para lagi kaming mapaalalahan [on] how to really live.”

Nationwide, 714,312 senior citizens have received their first dose and 110,290 have completed their COVID-19 vaccination. –jlo
